Camp Jeloy
One of the programs that we are very excited about these days is one that is developing in the Philippines right now. Our partner in that area is beginning what they call the Tool Shed Ministry. This ministry is designed to teach marketable skills to young people so that they can acquire good jobs and support themselves and their families where they live. This type of program is one that we hope and pray to be able to duplicate with our other ministry partners at other places in the near future. There is also an opportunity for you to participate by going and teaching these young people the skills that you may have acquired as well.
There is a present need of $3000 to do several things such as purchase computers, tools, machines and other items needed to conduct the training as well as perform some renovations on a building presently owned by the ministry there for the classroom instruction. We are asking you to pray for this ministry as well as help us financially as we seek to serve in this area. Carrie and I plan to visit there next month and would like to take these funds with us then. Thank you for your support in this area. God bless.
In February 2007, we had the privilege to visit the Philippines to work with a local ministry called Asian Youth and Children Ministry. This ministry is based in Bacolod City on Negros Island and led by Sister Bong Barredo. She leads a team of workers and volunteers to conduct children’s camp programs throughout the year. They conduct One Day Camp programs every Saturday. These camps are held at a different local church each week. AYCM also conducts overnight camps at Camp JeLoy just outside Bacolod City where we assisted with renovation of the dormitory building. This is a one-story masonry building which received a new steel truss framing system along with a new roof, new widows and doors and new tile flooring. This camp facility has much potential for ministry to local children and is available for children and youth camp programs. It is situated on the beach with several mature coconut trees on the site. There is sufficient room available on the property to develop additional facilities that will enhance the ministry of AYCM.
